Formal Assessment
Kia ora Ladies
I have set an assignment on Google Classroom that you will need to work through in your own time. This is the workbook that pulls all of your Water analysis, report writing, Mathematics together in to one piece. You can find this in your email now.
This needs to be submitted by the end of this term. Keep working away steadily and aim to do set pages each day/couple of days to ensure that you get through it all in time. Those that don't will need to attend 'Holiday School' to complete it!
Remember from this we will be assessing you against the JCEA (year 10) credits as well as NCEA (Year 11) credits.
I am ever only an email away - so contact me if you need support!

Water testing
Water Testing
From our research we now know that there are a number of different factors that can contribute to telling us about the health of a stream.
Over the next two weeks we will be sampling 2 - 3 different streams in our Te Arawa rohe (region). There are a range of different tests that can be used.... Your job is to now learn about the different tests and how to administer them!
You will be split into 7 groups
As a group you must prepare:
A step - by - step easy to understand guide
for your classmates to be able to follow.
It must be a digital
presentation as it will need to be shared with both FFL classes.
You have two periods to complete this!
See Ms Hill for the resources needed for this activity!

Field trip alert!
Three Days until our first water testing session!
You have until the end of Wednesday to complete the tasks in this google slide. There is a lot of mahi to be done here ladies - but I know that you can do it.
You will need to work in pairs for the most part - so make your choices carefully. Choose a partner that you know you can work well with... it's not about being "Nice" to each other - but about making good learning decisions! Pick some one who will challenge you to be a better learner today!

Project One - Introduction
Define
The driving Question:
My Kainga, my Castle!
The driving Question:
How will we preserve our way of life so that when I retire in 50 years Rotorua is still a 'clean green' place to live?
Key Questions:
1. What can we learn from the last 200 years of settlement in Rotorua?
and/or
How have the Te Arawa people influenced the development/settlement of Rotorua?
Thinking about Tribal Narratives, myths & legends, ownership/guardianship of land, management of natural resources, interactions between British settlers and iwi, Te tiriti or Waitangi, Tourism and more
2. What is the current Health of our region?
Thinking about people, culture, languages, rivers, lakes, land, forests, farming, agriculture factories, pollution and more
3. So what needs to happen now in order to preserve our way of life?

Inquiry Process for Year 10 FFL - 2017
Define
What is the problem, big question?
|
Create a brainstorm of ideas
Refine and define your driving question, share this with your mentor group and your mentor teacher
Driving questions are the heart of your research, they provide purpose and focus. Your question should be clear, complex and open-ended. They will provide the basis for you to innovate or create a product for solution.
A good driving question will then provide opportunities for you to develop KEY questions - these will help you answer the driving question.
See this link on our website for more help in writing a good driving question.

Select an idea and expand your thoughts. Create an ACTION PLAN
Think about the 5 W’s and 1 H.
WHAT, WHERE, WHO, HOW, WHY and WHEN
What information do I need to know?
Where will I find this information?
Who can help me? This could be experts in our whanau, school or community
Why would I use this information in my research? Why would I choose to interview or survey people?
When is my deadline and am I on track to meet this?
How am I going to find the primary and secondary sources that I need? Eg Library, Interviews, Surveys, Newspapers, Magazines, Internet?
Create a folder and documents to record all your work. You and your teachers will need to be able to access this. Make sure it is in the shared FFL drive.
Begin your plan - the HOW (what you are going to do, why and when)
Record your PROCESS ensuring you evidence EVERYTHING you are doing - research, phone calls, reading etc.
You MUST be able to JUSTIFY what you are doing - time management.
|
Dream
Think big, what is it going to turn out like? Imagine a solution
|
What do you believe the impact of this information will have on our community in the future?
What will it LOOK like?
Create a vision board of your ideas. Think about the solutions that are in place now and what future solutions could look like? What is your place in this? How can you affect change?
|
Design
Create a design / plan the way you want it to work.
|
What do you need to do to make your dream a reality?
How are you going to present your information? What is going to be the most effective way to communicate your ideas and learnings on this topic.
How do you think you can best present your plan of action to implement change or innovation?
|
Deliver
Deliver the idea / end product / action
|
Put your plan into action.
Come up with an end product that encapsulates all of your learnings and work in this topic.
|
Debrief
Go over what worked, what could be improved, next steps to improve
|
Present and share what you have done.
Think about what you achieved throughout the process - final conclusion.
Evaluate the process and your engagement in this.
What did you do well?
What do you need to improve on?
What were new learnings for you in this topic?

Inquiry Planning - Term 4
This term you will be working on an inquiry project of your own choice! Yay! We will be following the same structure as our previous projects, Click here to see the format for your inquiry project. You will be able to work on this in your own time and on a Day 1 and Day 6 in class.
To do list:
1. Submit your Inquiry Brainstorming document through the Google classroom
2. By the end of today you must have emailed your mentor with your driving question and you four key questions.
3. Have created a folder in your google drive called TERM FOUR INQUIRY
4. Started researching your inquiry.
Research planning
Think about different ways that you can collect information - the internet is not the only source!
a) Library time - find books, magazines that will support you understanding more information about your inquiry topic
b) Create a survey that you can send out to different groups of people - YOU MUST ENSURE THAT THIS IS CHECKED BY A TEACHER BEFORE YOU SEND IT!
c) Plan an interview and contact an expert - it can sometimes take a while for people to get back to you - so the earlier you can send your questions to someone the better!
d) Conduct an interview
e) Continue to gather secondary sources
